CIs are safe with low rates of complications and can also be done while preserving any residual hearing. CIs should be the accepted standard of care for severe and profound deafness in adults.**

Tatsuya Yamasoba is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, University of Tokyo, Japan. An internationally recognized otologist and neurotologist, Professor Yamasoba is an executive board member of IFOS, Asia Oceania ORL-HNS, and the ORL society of Japan, and is also President of the Japanese Audiological Society. He currently focuses on aging and anti-aging research mainly related to hearing, balance and olfaction from the molecular level to clinical application.

Jeeyeon Lee is a highly regarded clinical audiologist in South Korea who plays an instrumental role in clinical application and education. Lee earned her Master of Science in Audiology, and Doctor of Audiology from Hallym University, receiving the Outstanding Student Award in Graduate School. Jeeyeon Lee is currently a Clinical Audiologist, Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Asan Medical Center, and has previously acted as Lecturer and Research Director, Speech Language and audiology Division in Natural Science at Hallym University, and Senior Clinical Audiologist and Supervisor at the Soree Ear Clinic & Soree Cochlear Implant Center.

Surgeon at King Edward Memorial Hospital and Professor Emeritus at Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai. Dr. Kirtane received his M.S. degree in ENT from Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and has a special interest in cochlear implants, endoscopic sinus surgery, and neurotology.
The Government of India honored him, in 2014, with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the field of medicine. He was also awarded the prestigious Dr.B.C.Roy award in 2005 by the President of India and the Qimpro Platinum Standard Award in Healthcare in 2014. Dr. Kirtane has several publications in indexed journals and has authored books on otology and neurotology and endoscopic sinus surgery. He is Member and Ex-President of Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Founder President of the Sinus Endoscopic Society of India, and Founder Member of Indian Society of Otology and Indian Society of Laryngology. He also serves a Member and Joint Editor of Neurotological and Equilibriometric Society International and Member and Ex-President of Neurotological and Equilibriometric Society of India.

Byung Yoon Choi, M.D, Ph.D, is a Professor, Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Seongnam, Korea. Earning his Ph. D. in Medicine (Neuroscience-otolaryngology) from Seoul National University, he has expertise in genetic deafness and customised auditory rehabilitation. Byung Yoon Choi acts as Director of the Research Planning Center at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Director of Scientific Committee for the Korean Otological Society, and Director of the International Relations Committee, Korean Society of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Professor Choi is also an Editor at Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, and is widely published with particular research interest in the translation of scientific information from bench-side to clinic.

Clinical Professor Catherine Birman is a highly experienced ENT surgeon specialising in adult and paediatric cochlear implants, otology and paediatric ENT. She is the Medical Director of Next Sense – formerly Sydney CI Centre. She was the NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year in recognition of her work for Cochlear implant recipients. She is passionate about awareness, access and long-term maintenance of hearing through Cochlear Implants and about hearing screening- for children and adults.
Holly Teagle

Holly Teagle is a clinical audiologist who has provided patient care and collaborated in clinical research related to cochlear implantation for many years. Currently Associate Professor in Audiology at the University of Auckland, Holly lectures on hearing technologies, paediatric audiology, counselling, and the impact of hearing loss over the lifespan. Associate Professor Teagle is also the Clinical Director of Audiology and Habilitation at The Hearing House in Auckland, which is the cochlear implant centre for the northern part of New Zealand. Research interests include all aspects of cochlear implant recipient care with a focus on device efficacy and clinical management of special populations.
